Helping People Through Tough Family Law Issues

Supervised visitation isn’t easy.

Supervised visitations are always incredibly emotional. Although many parents are grateful and happy to see their children, having required supervision can also make many parents feel like they are being punished or that they are untrustworthy. There’s no doubt about it, supervised visitation is awkward and difficult, but in order to see your children, it’s up to you to make it a more positive experience. Our child custody lawyer in Hauppauge, Catherine E. Miller, knows that this is much easier said than done. That is why we have come up with these tips for successful supervised visitations.

Tips for successful supervised visits with you child:

  • Make it a point to show up on time or early if possible. Showing up late makes it look like your child isn’t your priority.
  • Stick to the prearranged schedule. Routine is very important for children of all ages, so you should only cancel your visits for dire emergencies.
  • Plan your time ahead. Bring toys, books, games, etc., so that you and your child have many activities to choose from. Keep in mind that you should clear all activities with your supervisor before your visits.
  • Focus on your child. There will probably be a million things running through your mind, but you should remind yourself that this is your time with your child, and they should be the center of your attention.

These are just a few of the many things you can do to turn supervised visitations into more positive experiences. Want to learn more? If so, please stay tuned for our next blog.
